About Us

I would like to take this time to tell you a little bit about me and why I chose to become a pet sitter.  My name is Beth Kight, I grew up in the Deep Creek section of Chesapeake and since 1997 have lived in Suffolk, Va.. After graduating from high school in 1989 I attended Tidewater Community College and received an Associate of Science degree in Education. I also attended Old Dominion University majoring in English and minoring in History. While attending college I worked in daycare as a lead teacher. It was at the end of my first year at ODU that I decided teaching wasn't what I wanted to be doing. I decided to take some time off from school to try and figure out what it was that I wanted to do. In 1997 I got a job as a veterinary assistant at Nansemond Veterinary Hospital in Suffolk, that was when I knew what I was supposed to be doing. Animals have always been a major part of my life. I grew up with dogs, cats, birds, fish, horses, goats, chickens, ducks, you name it. I loved spending time with the animals, sometimes more than people. I got my first pony at the age of six, with the help of my grandmother. I put an add in the local newspaper stating that I was looking for a free horse or pony, within a few weeks I had my very own pony and have been obsessed with horses ever since. I currently don't have any horses of my own, (the first time in my life) but I get the opportunity to work at several friends barns often, throughout the year. I miss having my own though.
In 1997 I also got a veterinary assistance position at a local veterinary emergency clinic, where I was employed until just recently. I worked there on and off since 1997, but kept finding my way back there. I loved working in veterinary emergency and learned a lot working there.
On one of my off times from the emergency clinic I went back to school and received a professional degree in Medical Insurance Billing and Coding. I worked at Eastern Virginia Medical School for about six months after graduating, but found office work just wasn't for me. I went back to veterinary work. Working with animals is where I belong.
I have three children, all boys, who keep me very busy. After the birth of my youngest, Ayden, I found it difficult and very stressful to work full time at the emergency clinic, that's when I decided I needed to do something for myself and my family. With a lot of thought, love, research, and determination I started The Pet Guardian. It has been the best decision of my life. I can now be with my family when they need me and I can be with my animal friends as well, all of which I love. I have never been happier.
I love getting up in the morning. To me my profession is not a job, it is my way of life and I wouldn't have it any other way. God has truly blessed me.
I welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the best service in the industry.
